About the neighborhood

Suburban village with Tanglewood Park and easy commutes west and east

Clemmons is the suburb most relocating families pick in Forsyth County. It sits on the west side of Winston-Salem along I-40 and US-158, with Tanglewood Park — 1,100 acres of golf, trails, an arboretum and the Festival of Lights — as its back yard, and West Forsyth High School as its anchor. The village incorporated in 1986 and has kept a residential, low-key feel despite steady growth.

Housing is mostly neighborhoods from the 1970s through today: Clemmons West, Salem Glen's golf community, Waterford, Westerly Forest and newer builds toward the Yadkin River. Prices sit a notch below comparable Greensboro suburbs. Downtown Winston-Salem is 15 minutes, Bermuda Run and Davie County are just across the river, and the mountains are an easy 90-minute drive west.

Characteristics

Transportation

I-40 runs through the village with two interchanges, which makes downtown Winston-Salem a 15-minute drive and Greensboro about 40. Lewisville-Clemmons Road is the busy north-south spine. No local transit; the Yadkin River greenway and Tanglewood's trails are the places to walk and ride.

Services

Lewisville-Clemmons Road and the US-158 corridor have every grocery and chain you need (Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods, Publix, Target), plus a growing restaurant scene around Village Point. Tanglewood Park, Salem Glen Country Club and the Jerry Long YMCA are the recreation anchors; Novant's Clemmons Medical Center is in the village.

Character

Comfortable, suburban and family-first. Swim teams, youth sports and West Forsyth football set the calendar, neighborhoods are well kept, and the village has a strong sense of being its own place rather than part of Winston-Salem. Tanglewood gives it an outdoor and horse-country edge.
