About the neighborhood

Greensboro's classic in-town neighborhood: tree-lined streets, 1920s–60s homes, walkable to the country club

Irving Park is Greensboro's signature in-town neighborhood. Old Irving Park, laid out in the 1910s and 20s around Greensboro Country Club, holds the city's largest concentration of historic estate homes on wide, tree-canopied streets; New Irving Park, east of Lawndale Drive, picked up in the 1950s and 60s with brick ranches and traditional two-stories that have been steadily renovated and expanded.

What people buy is location: five minutes to downtown, five to Friendly Center, and Grimsley High School. Fisher Park, Latham Park, Kirkwood and Lake Daniel border it and offer smaller lots and lower price points with the same walk-to-everything feel. Inventory is thin and homes that are done well sell quickly.

Characteristics

Transportation

Central to everything. Downtown is a five-minute drive down Elm Street, Friendly Center and Battleground Avenue are just west, and Wendover Avenue gives quick access to I-40 and the airport. Sidewalks and short blocks make walking and cycling practical, and GTA buses run on the main corridors.

Services

Friendly Center, the shops on Lawndale and Battleground, and downtown's restaurant row are all within a few minutes. Greensboro Country Club, the Greensboro Arboretum, Latham Park, Lake Daniel Park and the Bicentennial Greenway are the green anchors; Moses Cone Hospital is on the neighborhood's edge.

Character

Established, polished and quietly social. Mature oaks, stone walls and consistent architecture give the streets a settled feel, and the area has an active neighborhood association and a long tradition of families staying for generations. It is in-town living without density.
