About the neighborhood

Quaker-founded village with a short Main Street, a public golf course and City Lake Park

Jamestown is the small town between Greensboro and High Point — about 3,700 people, a Main Street a few blocks long and some of the oldest history in the county. Quaker families settled here in the 1750s; George Mendenhall founded the village in 1816 and named it for his father, James, and the Mendenhall Homeplace and the town's historic district still anchor the center. It incorporated in 1947.

Housing is a mix of older homes near downtown, established subdivisions, and a lot of townhome and condo inventory on smaller lots, with the municipal Jamestown Park golf course and High Point City Lake on the town's doorstep. Per Triad MLS closed sales for the 12 months ending September 26, 2026, the median sale price was $365,000. Guilford Technical Community College's main campus is here, and Ragsdale High School serves most of the town.

Characteristics

Transportation

Very central. The Jamestown Parkway links to I-74 and I-73, Wendover Avenue runs along the north edge, and US-29 to the south connects to I-85. Greensboro and High Point are each about 15 minutes, PTI Airport about 15, and Winston-Salem about 30. A freight rail line runs through town; the nearest Amtrak stops are in High Point and Greensboro.

Services

Main Street has a small cluster of restaurants and shops — Southern Roots, The Deck at River Twist, Full Moon Oyster Bar and others — with full shopping a few minutes away on Wendover Avenue and at the Palladium in High Point. Jamestown Park and Golf Course, High Point City Lake Park, Wrenn Miller Park and the Deep River trails are the recreation anchors.

Character

A quiet, older-skewing small town with a strong sense of history and a lot of community events — Music in the Park on summer Fridays, a farmers market, and Day in the Park at City Lake every fall. It's a good fit for buyers who want to be close to both Greensboro and High Point without living in either.
